Behind some great #FurMamas is an even greater #FurPapi. Yes, you heard that right, I’m talking about the dog and cat dads out there hustlin.’ Often overlooked, but all deserving of a little recognition. They take the leash of an excited pup during hulk smash mode, carry the poop bags, lift the food bags, and always seem to be Fido’s favorite, no matter how many treats mom tries to use for bribery. Their big hands give the best ear scratches and hugs, and are always down for a roll on the floor. While #FurMamas rule the world, we can’t ignore just how amazing our counterparts are when it comes to caring for our pets.
So, without further ado… I’m happy to introduce our family’s beloved #FurPapi… Alex! We are a perfect match for each other, as our obsession with our fur babies is unmatched. One of our favorite past times is watching Nala and Zeppelin play wrestle in our apartment. The best part of our day is coming home to be all together and pile on the couch for a snuggle sesh.
Long story short, when my #FurPapi found newborn Nala, crying underneath his dad’s front porch he knew we were going to keep her. Her mom (his human dad’s dog) had gone for a secret romp around the block and gotten herself knocked up without anyone noticing. All of a sudden, six puppies clambered into Alex’s life. That summer, he spent every second he wasn’t at work looking after those puppies in his dad’s basement. He made sure they all got to eat, developed a bond with Nala, and scrubbed up countless smears (sorry) of nuclear puppy poop off of the floor when they broke out of their enclosure while he was away. I always knew he was a crazy dog person like me, but seeing him care for those puppies day in and day out until he found each one of them loving homes was on another level.
When the summer ended, he went back to school, with Nala in tow. He had no idea how it was going to work, having a puppy and going to school, but he was determined to give our little sass the best life she could have. When we finally graduated college and moved in together, I was so happy to be able to witness their relationship in person, rather than a snapchat from across the state. And again, after we adopted Zeppelin, to witness Alex and our new kitty develop a bond was so so cool. He had never had a cat growing up, but, he worked really hard to learn how to pet a cat, scoop poop and interpret feline behavior. Alex is the kind of person to commit with everything he has, especially when it comes to his pets.
I’m thankful to have such a supportive partner, and one that loves with all of his heart and is willing to make sacrifices to care for those he loves. So, to all of you fur dads out there, thank you. You are appreciated more than you know.
